Design Your Line

The first Crude affiliated contest went off. It was a little shaky at first – Alyeska got like 36“ of new in the 24 hours prior to the contest. So, only like 3 people initially signed up. Hilltop was busy, but people seemed more interested in riding than competing. However, as soon as DJ Thundroid jumped on the ones and twos, people started to meander toward the commotion. And little by little it started to look like a contest. It was reminiscent of the old Boarderline contest series where some people showed up to compete while others just came to hang out and watch. It was rad. The sun was out and there were hotdogs on the grill. Borg was even there to administer his signature heckle.

He even managed to get busy on a lonely triangle of pow while we were waiting for the contest to start.

The idea behind the Design Your Line rail jam was relatively simple: create an environment that catered to the imagination. We set up a few rails and a box as mellow as we could and gathered a mess of shovels, wheels, construction cones, a corrugated pipe, a bail of hay, and anything else we thought a rider might be able to use to their advantage. It’s not a new idea. As far as I know, Think Thank invented and perfected it. “Inspired By Think Thank,” that’s what we promoted it as. And the Burtners were stoked. They even mailed us a bunch of prizes. Thanks, homies.
